Match Reviews for the Autumn 2004 Season |
The Nukes vs. Hot Shots: 09 May 2004 (Play-off for Third place) |
The Nukes Team: Arnold, Carel, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Stefan |
Result: Lost by 10 runs What a season to forget. After The Nukes ended up on top of the log in their league we could not bring a single medal home! We had an average performance with the bat with all the partnerships contributing. Erik had the highest score for the day with his 24 runs and his partnership with Carel was also the highest (31 runs). Again the team struggled in the field, with Michael achieving the best figures for the day with his 3/9 (wickets/runs). We could not restrict our opponents, due to some average bowling and some inconsistency in the field. Our opponents scored 109 runs and took the honors of third place in the Centurion E6 league. The Nukes completed their first season without success, but will definately use this season as part of their learning curve! We will be back for the next season, not making the same mistakes and then bring some medals home! Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 24 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 2/9 (wickets/runs) – Net Contribution of 16 runs

The Nukes vs. Form-Scaff: 06 May 2004 (Semi-Finals) |
The Nukes Team: Chris, Gerhard, Heinrich, Johannes, Michael, Philip, Rob, Stefan |
Result: Lost by 49 runs The Nukes had another opportunity to reach the finals, but unfortunately we could not beat our opponents. Form-Scaff was sent in to bat and reached a total of 114 runs. An overall poor performance with the ball with only Chris achieving any bowling figures worth mentioning, 4/-3 (wickets/runs). We struggled to hit the wickets, catch the ball and for the first time our opponents continuously stole some runs. Two catches worth mentioning, the one from Michael and the other one from Heinrich (Both of them only just stuck in their hands/body). We had a good start with the bat with Heinrich and Philip scoring 26 runs. Unfortunately the rest of the team could not capitalise on the solid platform and we could only achieve a total of 31 runs after the third skin. Gerhard and Michael put on a partnership of 34 runs the team ended up with 65 runs on the score board. Man of the match: Chris Kriel for his 4/-3 (wickets/runs) and a net contribution of 5 runs

The Nukes vs. AST-DTS: 29 April 2004 (Semi-Finals) |
The Nukes Team: Chris, Erik, Michael, Wimpie, Philip, Carel, Gerhard, Heinrich |
Result: Lost by 8 runs The Nukes did very well this season to end up top of the log and playing in the Semi-finals within their first season. Unfortunately it just was not our day on the field. The ball did not stick in our hands, the wickets did not fall and the ball just seemed to end up against the net every time. It was probably our worst day in the field. We struggled to take wickets although Heinrich achieved 3/7 (wickets/runs) and Michael 3/5 (wickets/runs). Our opponents ended up with 122 runs on the board. We however struggled to reach the target and could only manage 114 runs. We were 8 runs short, and we can only wonder what difference the controversial “not out” call made by the empire could have made (10 runs). Well that is just part of the game! An average batting performance by the team, with Erik high scoring with 26 runs. Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his overall performance (Net run contribution of 14 runs)

The Nukes vs. Mochachinos: 21 April 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Johannes, Erik, Michael, Rob, Philip, Carel, Gerhard, Heinrich |
Result: Won by 25 runs After a well deserved rest after last weeks three games The Nukes came back with a bang! Overall a very good performance! Gerhard lost the toss for a change and our opponents decided to bat first, which suited us just fine. We did not have a great start to the game, conceding 66 runs after the first two skins. Luckily our bowlers striked back and limited our opponent to only 94 runs. Gerhard had a good performance with the ball with figures of 3/7 (wickets/runs), but the best bowler of the day was Philip with his brilliant 4/-1 (wickets/runs). The Nukes once again showed some real commitment in the field. Rob with his almost brilliant catch, Carel with his brilliant catch and Erik with his commitment/diving across the court limiting the runs and ensuring a few run outs. Heinrich and Philip ensured that we had a solid platform with their 27 runs, which Erik and Carel brilliantly extended with another 51 runs. Erik once again showed some real aggression with his 38 runs. Unfortunately we went through a slump in the third partnership. Rob and Johannes did however manage to frustrate their opponents when they stole a sneaky run and left the team with 12 runs from the last skin. Gerhard and Michael achieved this easily with their 37 runs partnership, and once again frustrated their opponents with all the runs stolen, especially their wicket keeper. Man of the Match: Erik van der Linde for his brilliant batting (38 runs) and commitment shown in the field.

The Nukes vs. Hot Stuff: 16 April 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Chris, Erik, Michael, Rob, Philip, Carel, Wimpie, Heinrich |
Result: Won by 5 runs It sure was evident today that the team had a tough week, 3 games within 3 days. Our acting captain Erik lost the toss and we were sent in to bat. All the partnerships brought in some respective scores with Rob and Michael scoring 38 runs. Erik and Wimpie scored 37 runs, confusing our opponents a little bit when they stole a few runs. Erik had the highest score of the day with his 35 runs. The Nukes ended up with 119 runs. There is not much to say about our bowling, except that we made it very difficult for ourselves with the 42 runs we conceded in extras. The fielding was also not that brilliant, except for Heinrich's brilliant catch. Our opponents only required 5 runs from the last over to win, luckily we still had Wimpie as part of our artillery. He restricted our opponents to only -2 runs in the last over to ensure a win of 5 runs! Wimpie once again had brilliant figures of 5/2 (wickets/runs). Man of the Match: Wimpie van Rooyen for his 5/2 (wickets/runs), ensuring a victoy for The Nukes !

The Nukes vs. Mochachinos : 14 April 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Erik, Michael, Rob, Philip, Arnold, Wimpie, Heinrich |
Result: Won by 2 runs This was surely an eventful day since we had to play two games consecutively. Our captain won the toss again and send our opponents in to bat. The Nukes had an average bowling performance; with some members achieving excellent figures while other members not doing that great. As always Heinrich had great figures, 4/3 (wickets/runs). Erik also had a great day with the ball achieving 4/-3 (wickets/runs), but Wimpie just outperformed everyone with his figures of 6/-6 (wickets/runs). The team again showed some commitment in the field with some brilliant fielding and we managed to restrict our opponents to 98 runs. We had a slowish start with the bat, but fortunately the tempo picked up throughout the game. Philip again had a solid performance with the bat with his 21 runs. It however remained a tight match-up throughout the game with Gerhard and Michael requiring 35 runs from the last skin to win the game. They started of very well, but unfortunately they lost unnecessary wickets towards the end, which meant they needed 3 runs from the last ball in order to win. Gerhard then calmly stepped forward and hit the ball for 4 runs, giving us a victory by 2 runs. Man of the match: Gerhard van der Merwe for his 24 runs and for showing some match temperament with his winning 4!

The Nukes vs. Form-Scaff : 14 April 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Erik, Michael, Carel, Philip, Chris, Wimpie, Heinrich |
Result: Won by 47 runs This was probably the best game we have played this season. The overall performance of the team in all the diciplines was brilliant. All the bowlers did their part to restrict our opponents to only 70 runs. Philip had good figures of 3 wickets/5 runs, while Michael managed to achieve 4 wickets and conceding only 3 runs. In the field the whole team was dedicated in restricting our opponents to a minimum of runs, and who will forget the brilliant catch from Erik. Philip was also brilliant behind the wicket and he was responsible for a few run outs. Heinrich and Philip gave us a great start with a solid partnership of 32 runs. They even managed to steal a run from the opponents. Overall a solid batting performance by all the members, which brought the total to 117 runs. Gerhard and Michael achieving 45 runs and this time without stealing a single run. All the batting partnerships won their respective skins, which meant that we achieved maximum points out of this game. Man of the match: Michael Correia with 21 Runs and bowling figures of 4/3 (wickets/runs).

The Nukes vs. AST-DTS : 07 April 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Erik, Michael, Carel, Philip, Arnold, Wimpie, Heinrich |
Result: Lost by 22 runs The Nukes had a very shaky start by conceding 57 runs during the first skin. The game will also be remembered for all the extras conceded (20 runs in total) and the fielding was not as sharp as the previous week. The team did however show some character to reduce their opponents to only 136 runs, especially with Heinrich's brilliant bowling figures of 6 wickets for -2 runs! Philip and Heinrich started the game at a very competitive score of 38 runs, unfortunately the rest of the team could not capatilise on the good foundation and lost the game with 22 runs. The Nukes did loose too many unforced wickets (18 in total). Gerhard and Michael again kept their opponents on their toes with all the runs stolen between the wickets. This game will be remembered as another learning experience! Man of the match: Heinrich Stander with 13 Runs and brilliant bowling figures of 6/-2 (wickets/runs).

The Nukes vs. 333 : 31 March 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Erik, Michael, Carel, Philip, Arnold, Rob, Heinrich |
Result: Won by 50 runs The Nukes started off very well by restricting their opponents to only 99 runs, thanks to an overall good performance by the whole team. Carel Viljoen impressed with his bowling of 3 wickets for 3 runs while Heinrich Stander obtained 3 wickets for 6 runs. The whole team was committed in their fielding, always trying to save the ball away from the net! Philip le Roux also impressed behind the wicket with a very clever run-out which even confused the rest of the team! The Nukes also had an overall good performance with the bat. Erik van der Linde showed us why he had bought himself a new bat with his brilliant 37 runs scored. Erik and his patner Carel Viljoen also kept the opponents on their toes by stealing a few runs. The Nukes ended up scoring 149 runs. Erik and Carel put up a partnership of 53 runs while Gerhard van der Merwe and Michael Correia ended up with a partnership of 49 runs. Man of the match: Heinrich Stander with 18 Runs without loosing a wicket, 3/6 (wickets/runs) and a nice catch to round things of.

The Nukes vs. FormScaff : 10 March 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Michael, Wimpie, Philip, Arnold, Trevi, Ryan, Johannes |
Result: Lose by 34 runs The Nukes started off very well by restricting their opponents to only 111 runs, thanks to brilliant bowling by Gerhard van der Merwe (4 wickets for -1 runs). Johannes Jordaan also contributed with excellent bowling figures of 3 wickets for only 2 runs. Arnold Matimba stood out for his good field work and limited a lot of runs to only singles. The nukes batting will be remembered for miss hits and then being stumped by their opponents. The Nukes did show some commitment as Ryan Froude ran over two opponents in desperation for an extra run, unfortunately Trevi Chetty beat him to the same end and The Nukes lost another wicket. Gerhard van der Merwe and Michael Correia put on a partnership of 41 runs and will be remembered for the runs stolen between deliveries. Overall The Nukes could not capitalise on the low run rate requirement and only put 77 runs on the board, which meant a victory to their opponents. We will use this as part of our famous learning-curve! Man of the match: Gerhard van der Merwe with 23 Runs and 4/-1 (wickets/runs)

The Nukes vs. AST-DTS : 3 March 2004 |
The Nukes: Gerhard, Erik, Wimpie, Philip, Arnold, Heinrich, Ryan, Michael |
Result: Win by 15 Runs The Nukes batted first and put up a respectable 125 runs in the allotted 16 overs. Every partnership pulled their weight in the run-scoring department. Erik & Wimpie as well as Philip & Heinrich scored 34 runs each. Some big shots were played, but it was mostly working the ball around (and stolen singles) that accumulated the runs. In the bowling department we fared reasonably good. A few no-balls and wides will have to be minimized in future, but on the whole, not bad for a first time. Wimpie had the best bowling figures, although Gerhard, Erik and Michael bowled a superb last four overs, allowing only 12 runs (with the opposition requiring 28). The fielding needs some work, but Arnold 's lead should be followed: he was diving all over the place. Our first game also produced our first injury. Erik bowled a bad ball in his last over, which was duly smashed back at him. In attempting a catch, the ball hit the tip of his left fore finger and took most of the nail with it. After temporarily stopping the bleeding, he was however able to complete the over. Man of the match: Wimpie van Rooyen – 18 Runs and 4/0 (wickets/runs) |
