26 February 2007:

On 06-02-2007 The Atomic Nukes played against Legend Killers. We batted first and scored 82 runs, which was competitive, but slightly on the thin side. We were however there to win and won the fight comfortably in the first two skins, conceeding only 19 runs! Then came the big hitters and we conceded 42 and with that basically the game. The last skin scored 27 to reach 89 runs, meaning we lose yet another close game. Contributor of the match was Nandu Menon with 16 net runs.

On 13-02-2007 The Atomic Nukes played their second game to reach the Gold Final against MOB. We again batted first, but could only string together 66 runs, which immediately put us under huge pressure. The MOBsters batted with intent from the word go and passed our score in the second skin already. Damage control was unsuccessful and they ended on a huge 152 runs, with us having to play for Bronze. Contributor of the Match was Frank Pike with 7 net runs.

On 15-02-2007 The Explosive Nukes played their first semi-final to reach the Gold Final against Unputdownables. They batted first and we limited their big hitting to only 98 runs. We then replied with 99 runs, winning the match and thus earning at least a silver medal! Contributor of the Match was Turbo with 16 net runs.

On Sunday 18-02-2007 The Explosive Nukes played against Unputdownables again. This time we batted first and got to a respectable 110 runs. It was however not nearly enough. Our opponents did themselves proud and smashed everything we through at them out the park. If it was not for the run out off the last ball, they would had 200 runs, but instead still had a mammoth 193 runs and the gold medal to their credit. Contributor of the Match was Steve Aaron with 9 net runs.

Later that evening, The Atomic Nukes played Goldy Cocks for the bronze medal. We batted first and got to 96 runs, which was always defendable. They came and batted steadily and in the end they just past our score and then lost a wicket to leave them on 97 with one ball to go. This they just blocked and with that our season ended empty handed. Contributor of the match was Erik vd Linde with 14 net runs.

The next season starts in two weeks time, so look forward to seeing you there!

Finally!!! The website is updated for the first time in 2007. A lot has happened since December 2006, mainly that we have reached the end of the season. Both the Atomics and the Explosives ended second on the log, which means we can go directly to the final if we win our first round semi-finals on Tuesday. Good luck to us all!

Congratulations to: Gerhard vd Merwe who reached 2000 runs! (2005 @ 15.08 runs/game)

Tip of the Week: SHOW NO MERCY!!!

18 December 2006:

On 12-12-2006 The Explosive Nukes played against Poena. We batted fisrt and got off to a solid start getting 32 off the first skin. The second skin did not disappoint and added another 27. Then things got tough and our third skin struggled to 18 runs. The last skin gave us the final push to go past a hundred to end up on 102. The Poenas just lost the first skin reaching 31, but the next two skins demolished our bowling as both skins added 39 runs each. This already took them past our total, so their last skin had a bit of a swing and scored 34 more, taking their total to 143, handing us a big 41 run defeat. Contributor of the Match was Heinrich Stander with 7 net runs.

Since that was the last game of 2006, it is time for some good wishes! May you all have a very blessed Christmas and a very happy 2007! May the fours (and sixes!) be with us all in the new year. If you are driving over the festive season, please do so carefully!

On 05-12-2006 The Explosive Nukes played against Return of the Titans. We batted first and struggled somewhat in the beginning, later put the foot down on the accelerator courtesy of Nandu scoring 30 and Frank adding a solid 21, thus reaching a defendable 93. The Titans got off to good start and then just kept it going. They passed our total at the end of the third skin. Their last skin smashed everything everywhere and scored 56 runs to bring their total to 156, meaning defeat for us by 62. Contributor of the Match was Nandu Menon with 5 net runs.

The Atomic Nukes squared up against Goldy Cocks (yes, what's in a name?) The Cocky ones batted first and we kept things tidy in the first two skins, only conceding 43. We then let it slip as their next two skins pushed their total to 121, two real cockerels batting last. We opened the batting slowly and drew level with their scor after two skins. Our third skin struggled a bit, which meant the last skin had to score an impossible 67 for victory, but could only manage 40. Contributor of the Match is shared between Erik and Wimpie with 11 net runs each.

Congratulations to: Wimpie van Rooyen who reached 1000 runs! (1006 @ 10.93 runs/game)

Tip of the Week: Have patience when fielding, wait for that ball to reach you. If its coming off the net, or hit directly to you, watch it carefully and don't snatch at it! Remember, dropped catches lose matches!

2 December 2006:

On 28-11-2006 The Explosive Nukes played against VSB. We batted adn started of sedately, but quickly put the foot down on the accelerator. We ended with a huge skin of 58, courtesy of Charl and Nandu. That pushed our total to a hefty 134 runs. Our opponents new they had to hit a few as they started their chase. They played solidly, but could not match our prolific hitting. They managed to get 114 runs, handing us a 20 run victory. Contributor of the Match was Paul Sampson with a net contribution of 25 runs!

On 29-11-2006 The Atomic Nukes played against Babelaas Boys. They batted first and it was obvious that they had not had anything to drink yet! They smashed the first two skins to pieces to be sitting on 90 after two. We managed to hall back the last two skins somewhat by conceding 22 and 26, but the damage was already done as we had to chase down 138. We started off alright, just losing the first skin with 41, but from there we were not competitive any more. Our last skin played for pride only and gave us our only skin win as we reached 95. Contributor of the Match was Konrad vd Merwe with 17 net runs. This was also Konrad's last game for The Nukes as he will be moving soon. Good luck to you Konrad!

Tip of the Week: Until your eye is in, refrain from playing across the line as this sets you up to be bowled by fuller balls.

27 November 2006:

On the 17th of November, The Explosive Nukes squared up against CSA Juniors. They batted first and got off to a flyer, courtesy of 47 in the first skin. Their last skin added 24, which left them starnded on 59 runs. Contributor of the Match was Erik vd Linde with 12 net runs.

Tip of the Week: Remember to really pull down your front arm when bowling! This helps a great deal with getting your direction right and adds some pace to your delivery.

15 November 2006:

Last week the Summer 2006 season started! The Explosive Nukes played their season opener against Ons Kom Blou. We batted first and progressive stomped down on the accelerator to reach a huge score of 164 runs (Nandu top scoring with 40 runs!). Confident, we went about defending that mammoth total! We immediately applied the pressure as we conceded only 17 runs in the first skin. Their next two skins did slightly better by getting 26 each, while we demolished their last skin to only score a measly 5 runs, which brought their total to 74 runs. Thus, our opponents left even bluer than they came... Contributor of the Match was Nandu Menon with 30 net runs.

The Explosive Nukes then had to play against Centurion Pirates. We batted first and struggled our way to 112 runs, courtesy of a huge 58 run final skin from Piet and Nandu. This score did however prove to be somewhat small as our opponents reached our total at the end of the third skin and then plundered their way to 174 runs, meaning a 62 run defeat for us. Contributor of the Match was Piet Viljoen with 9 net runs.

The Atomic Nukes played at the same time against Quad Squad. They batted first and reached 126 runs, which we felt was gettable. Things did not start off too well for us in the first skin, but our score steadiliy approached their total. In the end, we had to hit a 7 from the last ball for a draw. Konrad came so close to achieving his dream, but had to settle for a 4, meaning a 3 run defeat for us. Contributor of the Match is shared between Konrad vd Merwe and Michael Correia who both had 11 run net contributions.

Congratulations to: Erik vd Linde who reached 200 wickets! (ave 12.33 runs/game)

Tip of the Week: When in doubt, chalk!
