The Nukes vs. Remax Jowic - "Finals": 15 August 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Won by 33 runs Gerhard once again won the toss and decided that " The Nukes " should bat first. We struggled with the bat tonight and we only managed to put 90 runs on the scoreboard. Our opponents made it difficult for us with some solid bowling and some great catches. Philip was the top run scorer for “The Nukes” with his 20 runs and his partnership with Heinrich also contributed the highest partnership of 30 runs. We knew that it would be difficult to defend such a low score, but we were highly motivated to produce our best performance. All the bowlers kept it very tight with some great attacking bowling. We were all sharp in the field, determined to limit “Remax Jowic” to the minimum possible runs. Gerhard had a great game behind the wicket and managed to take two stumpings, while Philip also showed his skills behind the wicket with his one stumping. Our apponents struggled to hit the ball against the nets, since all the fielders were determined to limit them all to single runs. Michael had a great catch in the field, while Erik once again injured his finger against the wickets during a run-out. Everyone in the team contributed in limiting our opponents to only 57 runs, which made us the Centurion “E5 Red” league champions. Michael and Heinrich both took 3 wickets while only conceding 3 and -2 runs respectively. Wimpie however managed brilliant figures of 5/-1 (wickets/runs). Men of the match: "The Nukes" |

Our bowlers kept “Remax Jowic” under tremendous pressure in the beginning with them only having 2 runs on the scoreboard after the first three overs. Erik was also kept busy at the back and managed some great outstretched catches. Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 24 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 5/-4 (wickets/runs). Erik had the best batting figures for the night with his 38 runs and Gerhard and Michael put on a partnership of 55 runs. Some bad bowling and too many fouls in the field made it easy for our opponents. “Remax Jowic” batted very positively and aggressively and managed to score 169 runs, which resulted in a 52 runs defeat. Michael had the best bowling figures for the day with his 4/10 (wickets/runs). Men of the match: Shared by Gerhard van der Merwe for his 30 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 2 / 7 (wickets/runs) and Michael Correia for his 25 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 4 / 10 (wickets/runs) |

Result: Won by 18 runs Gerhard lost the toss tonight and “Holts” sent us in to bat first. The team continued with their good performance with the bat and everyone contributed to our respectable total score of 124 runs. Gerhard was the pick of the batsmen with his 25 runs, while Erik and Carel put on the highest partnership of 39 runs. “Holts” played some positive cricket and managed to score 34 runs from their first skin. “ The Nukes ” struggled in the field tonight and we kept on missing the wickets while our opponents sneaked in too many stolen runs. Luckily the team showed some match temperament and managed to win the remaining 3 skins and limit“Holts” to only 106 runs. Tonight was a very tight game with the end result favouring our opponents after the first 14 overs. Luckily Heinrich and Gerhard kept their nerve and bowled our opponents out of the game. Michael had a good day in the field but Wimpie managed to achieve the catch of the day with his brilliant reflex catch. Heinrich had the best bowling figures for the day with his 4 wickets while only conceding 7 runs. Man of the match: Gerhard van der Merwe for his 25 runs and his bowling figures of 3/9 (wickets/runs). Net run contribution:16 runs |
The Nukes vs. CSA Team A: 20 July 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Arnold, Chris, Erik, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Rob, Stefan |
Result: Won by 71 runs Acting captain Erik won the toss tonight and decided to send our young opponents in to bat. Our opponents started of well with a partnership of 29 runs for the first skin. Our bowlers stuck to their task and together with some accurate throwing “ The Nukes ” managed to restrict “CSA Team A” to only 89 runs. Stefan had a good day with the ball with his figures of 3 wickets while only conceding 10 runs but Chris managed to better those figures with his 3 wickets and only conceding 8 runs. Philip had a good day behind the wickets and managed 2 stumpings. The catch of the day must have been Erik's catch at the back against the side net. Michael and Stefan was sent in first and managed to hit 50 runs within their skin. The rest of the partnerships also had a solid partnership with Erik and Chris ending our innings with their partnership of 55 runs. “ The Nukes ” managed to put on 160 runs on the scoreboard, beating our opponents by 71 runs. Heinrich and Philip were in the mood for some running and managed to steal a few sneaky runs. Good running boys! Erik however was in a batting mood and smashed our opponents for 42 runs. Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 42 runs with the bat, his bowling figures of 2/8 (wickets/runs) and his solid performace in the field. Net run contribution of 34 runs. |
The Nukes vs. Piss Cats: 13 July 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Martin, Michael, Philip, Stefan |
Result: Won by 72 runs Gerhard won the toss tonight and nominated to bat first. Martin and Stefan opened the batting and put up the highest opening partnership of 42 runs with some solid batting. They also produced the highest partnership of the day. Once again Martin had our opponents guessing with his moving around the wicket. The rest of team was consistant with the bat and “ The Nukes ” managed 146 runs on the scoreboard. Philip and Heinrich also kept our opponents on their toes with some great running between the wickets. Gerhard had the best day with the bat with his 27 runs. Our bowlers managed to keep our opponents in their place with some all round great bowling. Michael managed 4 wickets while only conceding 2 runs, but Erik was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 4/0 (wickets/runs). Gerhard had a great day behind the wicket with his two stumpings and between him and Erik they kept our opponents in their place and managed some great run outs. Erik had, as usual, a great day in the field with his solid performance at the back. The catch of the day must have been Carel's diving catch! Overall I believe that tonight was not one of our best days in the field but good enough to limit our opponents to only 74 runs, which gave us a victory of 72 runs! Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 22 runs with the bat, his good bowling figures of 4/0 (wickets/runs) and his solid performace in the field. Net run contribution of 22 runs. |
The Nukes vs. Pampoene: 06 July 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Chris, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Rob |
Result: Won by 22 runs Our opponenets arrived late for the game and Gerhard won the toss by default and decided that “ The Nukes ” will bat first. Once again we had a great day with the bat with all the partnerships contributing to a total score of 150 runs. Erik found his old form today and smashed our opponents for 38 runs. Erik and Carel had the highest scoring partnership with their 58 runs which equals the all time record for “ The Nukes ”. We made the task of winning difficult for ourselves with some sloppy bowling, too many wides and not enough wickets. The fielding was not that bad though with Carel being very busy in the field and saving some runs. Rob also made his presence known at the front with his two catches. Rob had the best bowling figures for the team and broke his own all time best figures with his 3 wickets while only conceding 8 runs. Not one of our best performances but good enough too win the game and only loosing 2 skins, which should keep us at the top of our league. Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 38 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 0/24 (wickets/runs). Net run contribution of 14 runs. |
The Nukes vs. Remax Jowic: 29 June 2004 |

All the partnerships contributed with Gerhard and Michael putting up the highest partnership of 53 runs. The team managed to keep the bowling and fielding tight and we won all four skins. Some good fielding and catches restricted our opponents to 107 runs. Gerhard was the pick of the bowlers with his 4 wickets while only conceding 12 runs. Man of the Match: Gerhard van der Merwe for his 35 runs with the bat, his bowling figures of 4/12 (wickets/runs). Net run contribution of 23 runs. |
The Nukes vs. Holts: 22 June 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Arnold, Carel, Chris, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Won by 48 runs We all knew today was going to be a tough game since our opponents are currently ranked top of our league. Gerhard won the toss and decided to send our opponents into the field. That definitely turned out to be the right decision with the whole team performing with the bat and putting up a very defendable score of 139 runs. Gerhard and Michael scored the highest partnership with 49 runs, with Gerhard contributing the most runs with his score of 28. Our bowlers had a slow start with our opponents scoring 46 runs during the first skin. Furtunately that was the only skin we lost and our bowlers pulled the game back with same great bowling and fielding. Chris had the best day with the ball and he managed 4 wickets while only conceding 5 runs. All the fielders were sharp in the field with some good catches by Heinrich and Chris. Michael also had a busy day in the field and managed a few run-outs. Gerhard also had a good day behind the wickets and kept our opponents in their place and even managed a few run-outs and a stumping (which the ref managed to mark as a runout!). We bowled our opponents out for 91 runs and won the match by 48 runs. This was probably one of our best overall performances. Man of the match: Gerhard van der Merwe for his bowling figures of 2 / 3 (wickets/runs) and he contributed 28 runs with the bat (Net run contribution: 25). He also had a great game behind the wickets. |
The Nukes vs. CSA Team A: 15 June 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Chris, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Rob, Wimpie |
Result: Won by 74 runs Gerhard lost the toss again and our opponents decided to send us in to bat. Our opponents had a good bowling line-up, but luckily all our batting partnerships had a good day with the bat and we ended up with 136 runs on the scoreboard. Gerhard and Michael scored the highest partnership with 58 runs, with Gerhard contributing 33 runs. Our bowlers also made a good contribution by restricting our opponents to only 62 runs. Philip managed to obtain 3 wickets while conceding no runs, but Erik was top of the bowlers with his brilliant figures of 4 / -6 (wickets/runs). If there was one part of our game that stood out tonight, it had to be our fielding. The team showed some true commitment in the field and remained sharp and eager during the whole match. Tonight was probably one of our best days in the field, which helped us to win 3 of the 4 skins. Man of the match: Erik van der Linde for his 4/-6 bowling figures and he contributed 16 runs with the bat (Net run contribution: 22) . |
The Nukes vs. Bad Boyz: 08 June 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Erik, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Won by 124 runs We finally manged to break our losing streak with a magnificent win of 124 runs today! Gerhard lost the toss and our opponents decided to send us in to bat. Wimpie and Stefan opened the batting with a solid partnership of 47 runs. Erik and Carel were sent in next and they improved further with their partnership of 49 runs. A very good performacne with the bat with “ The Nukes ” ending up with 172 runs on the scoreboard! The team kept the bowling tight and made it very difficult for their opponents to score any runs. The performance in the field was also very sharp and “Bad Boyz” could only achieve 48 runs after their 16 overs. Stefan had the best bowling figures for the day with his 4/-2 (wickets/runs). An overall good performance for the team with which we can build on for the rest of the season! Man of the Match: Michael Correia for his 20 runs and bowling figures of 4 / -1 (wickets/runs). Net run contribution of 21 runs. |
The Nukes vs. Millenex Strikers: 01 June 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Gerhard, Heinrich, Martin, Michael, Philip, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Lost by 60 runs Gerhard won the toss and decided to try something different and send in our opponents into the field to bowl. Heinrich and Philip once again laid a good foundation especially after a sleepy start by Heinrich (It might be a good idea to set your clock when deciding to go to sleep before a game; you just might arrive on time for the game!). In all I think we had a good performance with the bat and we ended up with 95 runs on the board (Mayde about 15 runs too little). Carel had the best day with the bat with his 18 runs. Our opponents played very well, probably above E6 league standards, and put on 161 runs on the board. One good thing of the game was that we drastically improved with the amount of extra balls bowled, only 2 during the hole game! Gerhard had a brilliant day with the ball when he achieved 4/2 (runs/wickets). Man of the match: Gerhard van der Merwe for his 14 runs with the bat, 4/2 (runs/wickets) and a net run contribution of 12.

The Nukes vs. Comic Relief: 26 May 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Gerhard, Heinrich, Martin, Michael, Philip, Rob, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Lost by 48 runs The fith game in a row! Gerhard won the toss and sent our opponents in to bat and they managed to accumelate 124 runs. An overall good fielding performance, but we struggled to take wickets. Wimpie and Gerhard both took same great catches. We did however make it a bit easy for our opponents to score runs with our loose bowling. Philip was the pick of the bowlers with his good figures of 3/3 (wickets/runs). Today was probably one of our worst performances with the bat. We could not score runs and we lost unneccessary wickets! We could only manage 76 runs with Philip and Gerhard both top scoring with 19 runs. Luckily Martin enlightened our night when he frustrated our opponents with his batting style. One of their bowlers just could not cope with Martin moving around in his crease. This has been the fith game in a row which we have lost. Hopefully from now onwards only victories will come our way! Man of the match: Philip Le Roux for his 19 runs with the bat and his good bowling figures of 3/3 (wickets/runs) – Net Contribution of 16 runs

The Nukes vs. Discount Fashion: 25 May 2004 |
The Nukes Team: Carel, Chris, Gerhard, Heinrich, Michael, Philip, Stefan, Wimpie |
Result: Lost by 8 runs We finally had our first game for the new season after having a few days of rest since our dismal performance in the previous seasons finals. Our opponents opened the batting and reached 122 runs due to our rusty bowling performance. The team struggled to take wickets and Carel had the best bowling figures with his 2/11 (wickets/runs). Heinrich had a good performance in the field, while Chris had an even better day in the field. The Nukes got to a solid batting foundation, but we just could not get the total runs on the board. A few silly run-outs could easily have changed the outcome of the game. The shot of the day must have been Wimpie's powerfull straight drive for four. Chris and Carel put on the highest partnership with their 36 runs. Man of the match: Carel Viljoen for his 24 runs with the bat and his bowling figures of 2/11 (wickets/runs) – Net Contribution of 13 runs
