27 July 2005:

On 26-07-2005 The Nukes II played their final game for the season when the squared up against CTC for the bronze medal. CTC batted first and managed a good total of 102 runs. Unfortunately, we could only reply with 76 runs, which meant that for the first time in a long while no Nukes player had something to show for the season's efforts. Man of the Match goes to Chris Marais for a net contribution of 24, just edging Warren King with a net contribution of 22 runs. Well done dudes!

So, that is that for the Winter 2005. See the Winter 2005 page for the Accolades. The new season starts in a weeks time. For those who missed it, we entered THREE teams in the Spring 2005 season, The Atomic Nukes, The 8 Nukes (which means The Infinite Nukes for those mathematically less inclined!) and The Nukes Kywalkers. From next week we are really painting the Centurion Arena RED....Nukes RED that is!

25 July 2005:

On Sunday afternoon, the final game of the season for The Nukes ended in disaster. Our batting was solid as we put up 115 runs. However, our bowling was atrocious. Not even the occasional brilliant fielding could save the game and we eventually lost by an unlucky 13 runs. Man of the Disaster is Erik who contributed an ironic (yip, you guessed it!) 13 net runs.

The Nukes II will face CTC for the Bronze Medal at 18:30 on 26-07-2005. Good luck!

20 July 2005:

Oh, what a night! But not for us... The Nukes played CSA for a place in the gold medal final and sadly lost by 19 runs. Man of the Match though was Philip le Roux with a solid contribution of 14 runs. We then had to sit around and mope for an hour to wait for the 3rd-4th place semi. It turned out that we had to play Gonads for a place in the final. What can one say, they had the twins and some other good players... We lost by an unthinkable margin of 40 runs. Erik vd Linde did not do too badly and is rewarded with the Man of the Match award for a net contribution of 9 runs.

The Nukes II played The Incredibles in their 3rd-4th place semi-final, which they won quite comfortably by 15 runs. Man of the Match goes to Dugald Smith for a massive net contribution of 23. We then had a chance to get to the gold medal final by beating The Scorpions. Unfortunately they did not read the script and the writing was on the wall for us! We lost by 31 runs. Man of the Match was Reshendren Naidoo with a net contribution of 8 runs.

So, come Sunday, both teams will play for the Bronze medal. May our neutron scatter be decisive!!!

18 July 2005:

This is it! Semi-final week has arrived again! The Nukes finished top of the D2 league log, while the The Nukes II ended third on the E5 Green log. Finals day is on Sunday 24-07-2005.

Tomorrow, The Nukes are set to square up against CSA at 18:30 in the 1st - 2nd place semi-final. Strangely, we have not played against CSA during the round-robin stages of the season (probably due to our brief stint in D3?) and as such, don't really know what to expect. That the game will be tough, goes without saying, but we feel we might just have enough fire power to ANNIHILATE the youngsters! However, should the unthinkable happen and we lose, we have a second bite at the cherry at 20:50 against the winner of the 3rd - 4th place semi-final.

The Nukes II will face The Incredibles, also at 18:30. We don't expect any stiff opposition as our victory against them during the season was somewhat convincing! Then, at 19:40, we play against the loser of the 1st - 2nd place semi-final for a place in the gold medal final. However, should we lose the first game, we will play at 20:50 for a place in the 3rd - 4th place final on Sunday.

Whatever happens, we all look forward to quite a competitive night of action cricket! Good luck Dudes!

Behind the scenes, things have also evolved at The Nukes. We have currently so many players that we decided to enter a third team from next season! It will however not be a first, second or third team, but three independent teams, which chose themselves. So from next season, we will have The Atomic Nukes, The Nukes Kywalkers and another team, who have not yet decided on their name (the indecision entirely due to circumstances within their control!), painting the Centurion arena red with radioactive enthusiasm! Watch this space!

13 July 2005:

On 12-07-2005 The Nukes played Vis & Chips again. Most of their team was late and being the great sports that we are, we fielded first. They got 78 runs to which we replied with 121 runs, meaning victory by 43 runs. Man of the match goes to Steve Aaron for a net contribution of 16 runs, although Erik (14 net), Gerhard, Wimpie and Philip (all 12 net) also desrves a mention.

Congratulations to Gerhard (1009 runs) and Philip (1001 runs) for reaching that career milestone!!!

This ends the round-robin part of the season. Semi-finals to come with finals day on 24-07-2005, so keep watching this space!

Later that night, The Nukes played Gonads. Our fielding and bowling effort up front was up to spec, but then our batting let us down. We lost by 7 runs, breaking a 6 game winning streak :( Man of the Match though was Heinrich with a solid net contribution of 19 runs courtesy of career best bowling figures of 6 / -10! Go Steady Eddie!

On 21-06-2005 The Nukes played against SARB Men. The Nukes won the game with 33 runs. The Nukes batted first and put up a defendable 116 runs, with each partnership pulling its weight. Later, The Nukes II squared up against The Scorpions. The Nukes II lost a low scoring match by 36 runs. The Nukes II put up 60 runs and kept The Scorpions under control until the start of the last skin, when they stepped on the gas and powered to 96 runs. Man of the Match (and this is now getting to be a good habbit!) was Rob Bollen with a net contribution of (an unfortunate?) 13 runs.

15 June 2005:

On 14-06-2005 The Nukes II played against Playas. Unfortunately The Nukes II were "outplayad" by a big margin. Playas put up a huge total of 163 to which The Nukes replied with 67, which meant defeat by 96 runs. Man of the Match goes to Chris Marais with a net run contribution of 10 runs.

The Nukes squared up against the Usual Suspects at the same time. The Nukes batted first and put up 97 runs. The bowling and fielding started off slowly (maybe due to the cold of winter?), but picked up in the second half of the innings to restrict Usual Suspects to only 58, meaning victory by 39 runs and maximum points. Man of the Match goes to Erik van der Linde with a net contribution of 19 runs.

The Nukes were also promoted back to league D2, which we now lead comfortably: 72 points after 5 games. The Nukes II is in second position in league E5 Green with 73 points after 7 games.

13 June 2005:

On 10-06-2005 The Nukes II played against The Incredibles. The Nukes II put up a good score of 115 and then gave their best performance ever in the field by restricting The Incredibles to a meagre 64 runs!!! Every catch stuck and every run out (well almost every one!) were taken. Well done to the whole team. Man of the match though was Rob Bollen with a net contribution of 15 runs!

Tomorrow night at 20:50, The Nukes play against Ususal Suspects, while at the same time, The Nukes II will square up against Playas. Good luck to all!

Directly afterwards, The Nukes squared up against Dudes. Dudes were found wanting as we produced our best win of the season by beating the Dudes with 32 runs. We lost only seven wickets, but still conceded 16 extras. Man of the Match was Philip le Roux with a net contribution of 10 runs.

The Nukes II were moved from league E5 Blue to E5 Green. Don't ask why the leagues suddenly stop at E5 and then turn either green, red or blue? Must be an emotional rollercoaster ride...

25 May 2005:

On 24-05-2005 The Nukes II played against CSA A and sadly came second against a fairly young team. We lost by 38 runs. Man of the Match was Dugald Smith with a net contribution of 8 runs.

Later that night, The Nukes faced off against Active 8. We finally won a game this season, all be it by only one run! We had to chace down 91 runs and got home with a ball to spare. Man of the Match was Steve Aaron with a net contribution of 10 runs.

On another sad note, we saw that The Nukes were demoted to league D3... Now we have a new plundering ground though, so watch out!

Also welcome to our latest playing member, Etienne Moraal. May you score many many runs!
