About Us

THE NUKES action cricket team was formed on Friday, 27 February 2004 . The original set of players are all engineers that just happen to be working at a nuclear power plant design company.

Anyway, due to the high stress experienced at work (many long, challenging hours are spent behind PC's and in meeting rooms!), we needed a place to blow off some steam, which turned our attention to sport. Not that we are all highly gifted sportsmen (to be truthful, we are…), but it seemed a good idea at the time and thus far it has proved to be just that!

We had so much fun that it became quite infectious. On Friday, 20 August 2004 , THE NUKES II was formed. After some initial growing pains (read losses…), THE NUKES II became very competitive. They achieved some massive victories as time went on! About a year later, we had enough players for a third team. So come Spring 2005 (which started in Aug 2005), we entered three independent teams, namely The Atomic Nukes, The ∞ Nukes and The Nukes Kywalkers! Due to injuries and/or other commitments, less players are available right now, so we only have two teams at present (Atomics and Explosives formed from old ∞ Nukes and Kywalkers players).

We play to win.

And have a few beers afterwards while analysing the score sheet to death! If we lose, well, there is always next week where we can right all the identified wrongs. It is after all only a game, but played very competitively!

Anyway, the main idea is to have fun along the way, not lose too badly and be able to brag (see averages and high scores) about our accomplishments to spouses (our most earnest supporters, those that have these anyway…), friends and colleagues.

Presently, THE ATOMIC NUKES is competing in league B3, THE INFINITE NUKES are playing in D1 and THE NUKE SKYWALKERS are playing in league E2 at the Centurion Action Cricket Arena. We hope to make life difficult for our opponents and to them we would just like to say that Running is pointless, in the end we will get you, no matter how you look at it!

So here's to in swinging yorkers, straight bat drives, Jonty-like fielding, inspirational spectators and of course the good stuff: beer.
